Having said that if anything and everything remained at the strategic level with no action taken, strategy would be useless. To set the stage, we can’t talk about strategy alone as strategy is only one piece of the puzzle, the whole picture of planning includes:
Mission -> Vision
Goals -> Strategy
Objectives -> tactics
Mission:
Fundamental purpose whether it is about you or your organization, what is the purpose of “LIFE” (well if you want to think about it), what is the purpose of your organization. A mission statement is a declaration of justifying one’s existence.
Vision: What you WANT to be in the future, a dynamic state or scenario where one cherishes as ideal.
Goals: A specific, actionable and measurable (usually time box-able) state that one must achieve to move forward towards the vision.
Objectives:
The results and outcomes of actions during or at the time when the goals are reached.
Mission defines what you are
Vision defines what you want to be
Goal defines the intermediate states
Objective defines the outcome/results
Strategy defines what to do and NOT to do to achieve certain goals. Tactics defines how/where/when and by whom certain actions must be taken in order to produce results.
Strategy (Again pay attention to the relativity of the scope when dealing with organizational hierarchy or at different levels of personal interests)
The willingness and determination of taking actions according to the strategy largely depend on:
1. How much are you believe in it?
2. Have you set your heart on it?
3. How much pain/losses you are willing to take in order to realize the vision.
4. What resources/means do you have in order to achieve them? (well, when there is a will, there is a way).
